About Our Founder
My name is Julie Mooney. I started In the Midst Educational Consulting when I was nearing 20 years' experience working as an educator, leader, researcher, trainer, and curriculum and learning experience designer in the adult and higher education sectors, in Canada and internationally, At that time, I had just completed my Ph.D. in Education, which built on the work I had started in my master's in Educational Leadership. I have travelled and worked across many regions of Canada and the world, developing my expertise in varied contexts. At In the Midst, this breadth of knowledge and skill serve clients educational and creative needs, whether you are an individual practitioner, an educational institution, a community organization, or an international network.
Locating Myself
I am a settler-Canadian of Irish and Scottish ancestry, living and working in Treaty 7 territory and the Homeland of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Located in the heart of Southern Alberta, this beautiful land, where the Bow and Elbow Rivers converge, is known as Moh'kins'tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts'ists'i to the Tsuut'ina. As a settler, recognizing and lamenting the ongoing harms of colonialism, I seek to build new relationships in the ethical space of engagement, working with Indigenous people, communities, and lands. The ethical principles with which I engage in these new relationships are respect, reciprocity, humility, truth-telling, and justice.
